Life Things

Hello everyone!!!  I’m back from my break from blogging.  Okay, it hasn’t been that long but it feels like it *laughs nervously*.  A lot has happened and I am really excited to post about it.  I have decided I am going to make this blog a little more personal than it has been.  I hope you enjoy this little peek into my life!

Here is a pineapple with sunglasses 😛

Blogging Carnival, Topic Music

Hi guys I am so excited to share this blog with you because this blog will be apart of a bigger blog from my class. So my blog post is about music and I will be writing about a music author named Paige Buxton. she only has two songs called “Goosebumps” and the other is “No Time to Waste”.  They are not very popular but Paige wrote her music so people could listen and she did not care about her fame. Paige was against bulling.  That is another reason she wrote her music and a lot of people in the comments of her You tube videos say that she died doing what she loved.  Paige was only 20 years old and she had a younger sister named Ashley.  Paige was a great singer and people are always commenting on her videos and she mostly gets positive comments.  I stumbled  on her videos while sitting in a live stream and they mentioned about her mother and her sister walked up to them and her mom talked to him about her while her sister was playing with his dog.  Many people since then have been going on her channel which her sister took over.  Paige took a stand to bullies and she loved what she did.

My Favorite Music Group
Welcome! I’m about to reveal to you who my favorite musical band is… but don’t freak out when I tell you that they don’t make English music! Their name is BTS, known as “방탄소년단” or “Bangtan Sonyeondan” in Korea. As you can probably guess, they make Korean music. Before you ask the inevitable question: “Why do you listen to this if you can’t understand what they’re saying?” let me tell you that in Korea, English is very trendy and popular. Korean bands love to include a large amount of English words interspersed between all of the “confusing” Korean lyrics. Also, I’ll be here to answer some of your hypothetical questions, so don’t worry!

Question #1: What genre of Korean music does “BTS” make, and are they any good?

Answer: They make Korean Pop music (shortened to “K-Pop”) and are one of the best groups out there (I’m biased, of course)!

Question #2: What kind of band are they? Are they a dance group, an instrumental group, ect.?

Answer: A lot of their music is upbeat, but some of their songs are slow with great vocals being constant throughout every song! They are a seven-member boy band (yes, as most K-Pop bands are in Korea) and can dance really well!

Question #3: Are there any songs that you would recommend me to listen to?

Answer: This is a hard question… when it comes to music groups, referring the wrong song first can turn a person away from a really good group, simply based upon a first impression. If I had to choose, I would say listen to “Best of Me” on their newer album, Love Yourself 承 ‘Her’. That should start you off well, but then again, I don’t personally know your music tastes!

Question #4: Is this band popular in places other than Korea, or are you just one of their few fans from another country?

Answer: Yes, yes, yes! They are very popular around the world. A few years after their group debut, they started to gain worldwide fame and since have won the “Top Social Artist” award at the Billboard Music Awards, an American music award show!

Question #5: Does the language barrier make it hard to listen to, and are their lyrics even appropriate?

Answer: Well, yes, and no. The language barrier can make it quite awkward to listen to at first, but it’s pretty easy to become used to. As for appropriateness, BTS’ lyrics highly vary in their lyrical “content.” You see, as is the case in many countries, the main focus in pop music is “romance/love” music, which I don’t know if you’ll be opposed to. As for bad words, stay away from their older albums (or ask me for advice in choosing songs) and stick to their newer ones and you should be just fine! Most of their music is clean and sounds great!

Question #6: I’ve heard that these Korean guys can dance… is it true?

Answer: Yes, it most definitely is. BTS is great at pulling off incredible choreography to go along with their upbeat tracks. If I could recommend my personal favorite dance group, I would say “Speed.” Take a look at their dance practices if you can, they are just incredible!

If you read all of that, then wow, I’m impressed! I truly thank you for taking the time to read my long post about foreign music, and as always, have a great day!

I did a post about three of my favorite Christian artists—

My Favorite Music Artist(s)

Hey there!!!  Today I am going to talk about a few of my favorite music artists.  I say a few because I have come to the conclusion that I do not have one favorite artist.  I was originally going to call this post ‘My Favorite Music Artist’ but obviously that wouldn’t work.  That said, let’s get to the post.

Jordan Feliz

Jordan Feliz is on the top of my favorites list.  His music hits a cord in me and I love it.  I fell in love with his song ‘The River’ and still listen to it with enjoyment.  His music is rooted in the walks of faith that he has gone through in the past few years.  The songs touch me because they talk about God’s faithfulness and blessings in our lives no matter the season that we are in.  It is always nice to listen to music that reminds me God is always there.  I am currently (as in while I am writing this) listening to Jordan Feliz’s newest album, Future.  I could listen to this for forever :P.

Now for another favorite music artist.

Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle has an amazing voice that is basically the equivalent of a Christian Adele.  If Lauren Daigle and Adele did a duet it would shake the very earth we live on.  Sadly that has not come to pass.  Now, back to Lauren Daigle.  She grew up in Louisiana and was immersed in a diverse range of music from a young age.  Her worship songs have a unique sound to them that you won’t find anywhere else.  How Can It Be, her debut album, has some amazing songs on it.  I Am Yours and My Revival are two of my personal favorites.

Now for my last artist.  It is actually a group.

Mosaic MSC

This group has some of the most powerful worship music I have heard in my life.  My cousin introduced me to them when I was going through a really hard time.  The song she told me to listen to was Tremble.  I listen to that song when I need to calm down before a competition or if I am feeling overwhelmed by something.  The very first word of that song is peace.  Last year they came out with a Spanish EP that included Tiembla (Spanish for Tremble) and another song I  love, Bella AmorTremble is a powerful song full of praise to the Almighty God who cares for us.

Much love,

Leila

My Music Vibe

I turn my head to see someone snapping their fingers at me, trying to get my attention.   I take out my ear buds and the world snaps back into place and I notice what’s going on around me.

This is something that happens A lot!   I am so deep into my music everything else fades away and I am in my own little world.   Whether I am listening to Ed Sheeran in all his glory or some hard core rock or even the sound of someone rapping a hundred miles an hour.   Whatever my vibe is, I am lost.   I’ve entered this crazy world of music.  Do you ever feel that way?   Well, I do.

To be honest I don’t know what my favorite song is.  It’s always changing.   But one of my favs is Moondust by Jaymes Young.   I love a lot of his music and Moondust is just one of his best in my opinion. He has two versions so if your interested in the song, make sure you listen to both versions.

I started listening to music at a young age.   I think my first album was Toby Mac when I was like 4 or 5 and alot of Christian music followed.   Then when I was 10 or so and Iphones and things were first being made (gosh I feel so old lol) we got an Ipad and that’s when I started watching YouTube videos about music and alot of music videos like Katy Perry who I thought was the best singer ever lol back then.

And that’s what I have on music 🙂

Black Widow

Hello everyone!  Today I will be posting about Black Widow.  She is just about my favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I wanted to share a little bit about her background.

Name: Natalia Alianovna Romanova, Natasha Romanoff

Abilities —

  • athleticism
  • expert taction
  • martial artist
  • secret agent
  • spy
  • assassin
  • expert marksman
  • master of various forms of hand to hand combat

Natalia Romanova (Natasha Romanoff) was born around 1928 in Volgograd, Russia.  She was saved from a burning building by Ivan Petrovitch Bezukhov during an early attack on Stalingrad by enemy forces.  Her training began in the late 1930’s after she attracted the attention of Soviet intelligence and was recruited by the KGB.  She excelled in training as an assassin for the Russian government.  Her training was held in a place known as the Red Room.

She received the Red Room’s variant of the Super Soldier serum(what was used on Captain America and The Winter Soldier).  Her mental and physical traits were enhanced dramatically.  Her body is physically enhanced to resist aging and disease and heals much faster than the average human’s body.  Black Widow has abilities greater than that of an Olympic athlete and has an amazing reaction time that borders on the edge of superhuman level.  She possesses the ability to mask her emotions perfectly and I’m sure has the best time at poker.  She can also process multiple information streams and can rapidly respond to changing tactical situations.  Captain America has similar abilities in the area.  She was recruited for S.H.I.E.L.D by Hawkeye after he was sent to eliminate her.

She can speak many language and those with similar roots

This includes:

  1. Russian (native language)
  2. English
  3. French
  4. German
  5. Bosnian
  6. Hungarian
  7. Romanian
  8. Castilian Spanish
  9. Czech
  10. Italian
  11. Latin
  12. Dutch
  13. Arabic
  14. American Sign Language – for Hawkeye obviously 🙂

I hope you liked this post!  I had a lot of fun researching Black Widow and learning more about her past than just what was shown in the movies.

So what do you think?  Should I do more posts on Marvel characters?  Who would you like to see on here?  Comment below and let me know!!!

The Unexpected Adventure

Hello everyone!  Over spring break I went on an unplanned adventure with my mom and sisters.  We were in town and had nothing we needed to do for the next hour so my mom decided to go to a thrift store she had passed a few times.  The problem with this idea was – the thrift store was closed.  So, as we drove around the parking lot we saw a statue in the grass.

Oh cool.  A statue.

The statue was cool.  It was a man in a chariot pulled by two white horses.  Then, my mom saw three crosses up on hill.  (I suppose here would be a good place to mention that this thrift store was attached to a church)  We went up to the hill and climb it.  Not only were there three crosses but there was also an open tomb.  From on top of this hill we saw an elephant statue.  More statues!  On our way to the elephants we saw a little barn with a goat in it.  The barn looked like it might be used as the set for a live nativity during Christmas.  We went up to the fence to see the goat and a little donkey comes out of the barn as well.  This was the cutest donkey I have seen in my life.  After the donkey comes out a very disgruntled-looking sheep.  That is all I will say about that sheep.

Okay, so back to the statues.  When we were done visiting the animals, we walked to the elephant statues.  The elephants had been placed on the edge of a wooded area.  As it turns out this wooded area had a path going through it.  Of course, we do the sensible things and go back to the car and don’t explore this strange piece of property.  NOPE!!!  We walk down the path.  And what is down this path?  More statues.  I honestly have no idea why this church has so many statues.  There were statues of angels and Jesus right along side the path.  Off to the side and down in a ravine were more statues.  And more and more and more statues.  I have never seen so many animal statues in one place in my life.  Lions, a panda, alligators, chickens, and monkeys just to name a few.  It was so cool!!

After we finished walking on this really cool path we found a way down into the ravine with the statues.  There was a dragon statue there and some big rocks that we climbed on.  Along the wall of the ravine were two huge fissures.  They were just huge.  And deep.  One had a little space with a pool of water.  The coolest thing was that the air coming out was cooler than the air outside.

Once I had climbed on the wall to try and see inside the fissures, we climbed back up the hill and got in the car.  All in all, we had a very fun time in an unexpected place.

The New Thing (That I Love)

Hello everyone!!  Soooo, I got a new haircut.  I haven’t had my hair cut in a long time (I had almost grown it down to my waist) and it was getting a bit out of hand.  Now, for the longest time I have been ardently opposed to the thought of having short hair.  When I was 11 my hair was cut very short and I hated it.  I mean HATED IT.  I fought against getting my hair cut until now.  I have been going through a change physically because of some internal problems and I guess I wanted to change in a way that I could control.  After much thought and looking at a lot of pictures, I decided on a length I felt I would be happy with.

I absolutely love it!!!

It is so much easier to take care of.  In the morning I just wet it and put some leave-in conditioner on it and I’m good to go.  It is fun to leave down and is very curly.

Before Cut

After cut

Thanks for reading this post and I hope you enjoyed it!  Have you ever been nervous about a hair cut just to have it turn out awesome?  Tell me about it in the comments 🙂

Don’t Despair

less worry – more faith

Lately I have been struggling with certain things in my life.  In this  time I have turned to finding quotes and writing them over and over again.  I will write them in any notebook I am working in (I always have a notebook lol).  It helps me to clear my mind and concentrate on what I need to be doing.  Less Worry – More Faith is one of my favorites right now.  It reminds me that God is in control of whatever situation I am struggling with and I don’t need to worry about it.

-From The Ground Up-

Don’t be troubled

because of the mountain tops

you have yet to touch.

Like a tree, you will grow,

not from the sky,

but from the ground up.

                                                                                        – Morgan Harper-Nichols

This one hit home for me.  Just because you feel like you are at a low spot doesn’t mean you aren’t growing (believe me, I would know).  We all start at the bottom, not the top.  It may seem like a hard lesson to learn but there it is.  YOU CAN’T START AT THE TOP!!!  When you are learning something new you make mistakes and fall sometimes. In the end this just teaches you how to get back up and keep going even when you hurt.

Don’t compare your progress to what other people have done.  Everyone grows at different rates.  You may be doing something that does not come naturally for you.  It might be very easy for the next person.  DON’T STOP!!!  No matter what you are doing, you can do it.

You can do the thing.

This is something my friend and I say to each other a lot.  We are both still in high school and sometimes this is the only way to help each other out.  Basically it means              ‘I don’t know what you are doing but you are amazing and I know you can do it.’

I hope you find your little bit of sunshine today and share with many people.  You never know who’s life you may change

Much love,

Leila 😛

My (amazing) Movie Review

Hello everyone!  Today I will be doing a movie review.  This is something new for me so hang on.

I decided to review the most recent Ben-Hur movie.  I was a fan of the 1959 version (which was very long) and finally got to see the 2016 version with my dad over Christmas break.

The movie revolves around the concept of forgiveness.  Not only brother to brother forgiveness but the forgiveness God has for His children.  The beginning idea of revenge is still there as shown in the 1959 version, but it is not what you take away from the movie.

I really appreciated how Jesus was portrayed in the movie.  He is shown to be a  kind person and to possess a quiet power and confidence recognized by everyone.

And now for the best part … the chariot race!!  The chariot race was amazing just as I had hoped.  The horses and chariots lived up to all I expected.  Everything leading up to the race concerning the horses was very well done.  I like horses a lot so that was thoroughly appreciated.  Many elements from the first movie are kept throughout the entire ten-minute scene and the CGI and live action cuts are blended together very well.

Though this movie was different from the 1959 version I felt that in light of the general story line it flowed very well.  I would definitely recommend this movie and plan to watch it many more times.

Cast:

  • Judah Ben-Hur – Jack Huston
  • Naomi Ben-Hur – Ayelet Zurer
  • Tirzah Ben-Hur – Sofia Black – D’Elia
  • Esther – Nazanin Boniadi
  • Messala Severus – Toby Kebbell
  • Simonides – Haluk Bilginer
  • Jesus – Rodrigo Santoro
  • Ilderim – Morgan Freeman
  • Pontius Pilate – Pilou Asbaek

Trying New Things (because why not)

Hello everyone!  It has been a while since I posted but I have an amazing explanation why.  The only thing is … it is not on my blog.  Before you start freaking out and thinking I am abandoning my blog (I am not) let me finish.  I am doing something new (to me) called guest blogging.  Basically, I go post on someone else’s blog or I ask other bloggers to post on my blog.  I think it is really cool and an awesome way to get content out.  The guest blogger on my site is Zach from SportsGamer.  He has a blog dedicated to sports and gaming.  Zach wrote My Experience with Emus and Alpacas for y’all to read on my blog.  Go check out his blog and leave some comments!

I had the privilege of guest blogging on Hannah’s beautiful blog, Traveling Ginger.  As the title suggests, the blog is about travel and I like it a lot.  That is where you will find the whole story of why I have been gone.  Hint: it has something to do with travel.

I hope you will go visit these blogs and read some of the awesome content.  Don’t forget to comment!!!  Thanks so much for reading my little post here.

My Experience with Emus and Alpacas

Hey everyone! My name is Zach, and I’ll be posting here today on Leila’s blog.

My Experience with Emus and Alpacas

Fred the Emu

Okay, so I live Tennessee, and there are a lot of farms here, as you might (not) expect. I have a friend that lives on a farm about 30 minutes away from where I live. They have horses, chickens, and also an emu. Yes, an emu. His name is Fred. Sadly, my friend’s family eventually had to give the emu back to the animal shelter where they got him from. Nevertheless, Fred was an adorable thing. Whenever guests on the farm would go to visit him, he always would come over to the fence that held him in to say hello. But, he’s also a quite curious creature. One time, my dad got to close to the fence, and Fred tried to take his phone from his hand!

I miss Fred, and hope he’s doing well in that animal shelter.

The Alpaca Farm

I went to an alpaca farm quite recently. If you don’t know what an alpaca is (which you probably do), they’re basically a smaller form of a llama. Now don’t get me wrong, alpacas are not llamas, but they do look quite similar. Anyways, my family visited a place that had a few dozen alpacas. The owner explained things like how often they shave the animals, how they make money from the fur, and how the weather conditions affect the creatures. Then, we got a chance to visit the on-site store that contained numerous items woven from the creature’s shaved fur! Overall, it had been an enjoyable day with learning and meeting cute alpacas.

Thanks for reading my stories about farm creatures!
